Focus Skills are the in-game representation of a character's prowess in certain areas. These skills are used to determine eligibility for spells, and are one of the primary factors in derermining attack rating.

Class Foci

Every class except Barbarian, Scout, Thief, and Warrior receives a class focus skill.

Shadowmastery

Shadowmastery is a focus skill granted to Assassins. It determines eligibility and hit rating for Assassin Powers, and serves as a weapon mastery skill for the Shadow Dagger and Bone Staff.

Armor Foci

The ability to wear certain kinds of armor will depend on a character's skill in that armor's focus skill. Beyond that, increasing an armor skill plays the largest single role in a character's defense score. Wearing cloth armor requires no focus skill.

A character's passive defense can be increased by training a passive defense focus skill. This type of defense is always on unless the character is sitting down or has been stunned.
