Revision as of 17:57, 9 February 2018

The following trainable spells are made fully or mostly redundant by concoction potions, similar easily-obtained alternatives, or have been neglected by developers over several patch cycles. Unless otherwise noted, these powers should not be trained on any character build.

This list is maintained alongside patches and can be used as a reliable source of character building advice.

Class

Assassin

  • Summon Darkspawn: A Pet power. Since pets disappear when a player uses invisibility, this spell serves no purpose on a class whose abilities are centered around invisibility. Furthermore, the damage the pet causes is trivial at best.
  • Slayer's Focus should only be trained to PR-1: The only difference between PR-1 and PR-40 is duration. That difference is only 80 seconds. Since this buff can be refreshed while stealthed, no serious Assassin places more than one point into it.

Channeler

Confessor

  • Convert the Shadow: All charm powers do not function at this time due to a bug. Furthermore, this power suffers from the same weaknesses as other Pet powers, with the added disadvantage of needing to find a living mob ahead of time. A charmed pet cannot accompany a player who has been summoned or who travels through a Runegate.

Doomsayer

Druid

  • Talons of the Beast: Druids are not recommended to use any form of melee damage, therefore a personal melee damage buff is not useful.
  • Serpent's Boon: Druids are not recommended to use any form of meele damage. Furthermore, this spell is made nigh completely redundant by concoction potions by offering a meager 4.08% speed increase after a 40-point training investment.

Nightstalker

  • Stalker's Fury: this spell is made nigh completely redundant by concoction potions by offering a meager 4.08% speed increase after a 40-point training investment.

Prelate

  • Wrath of the Heavens: Prelates are not recommended to use any form of melee damage, therefore a personal melee damage buff is not useful.

Priest

Scout

  • Rapid Shot: This spell is made nigh completely redundant by concoction potions by offering a meager 4.08% speed increase after a 40-point training investment.

Wizard

  • Charm of Illumination (and its group version): This spell is made nigh completely redundant by concoction potions by offering a meager 5 ability points after a 40-point training investment.
  • Charm of Haste: This spell is made nigh completely redundant by concoction potions by offering a meager 4.08% speed increase after a 40-point training investment.
  • Charm of Insight (and its group version): This spell is made nigh completely redundant by concoction potions by offering a meager 15% mana regeneration increase after a 40-point training investment.

Discipline

Unless otherwise noted, all listed discipline powers can be trained to PR-20 only.

Animator

  • Animator: Due to the state of Pets, this entire discipline rune is mostly obsolete.

Blood Horn

  • Blood Hooves cannot be trained high enough to affect most snares and roots that will be encountered in PvP, and what's more, the three classes with access to this power (Barbarian, Doomsayer, and Warrior) all have better means of dealing with snares and roots.
