Defense or Def rating determines a character's resilience to any effects that depend on an attack rating for success. Each time an attack is made on an enemy player, an internal calculation will take place to determine if the attack misses or not. This is known as the defense roll. As a player accumulates defense rating, it becomes harder for attacks to hit them.

Formula

Defense can be calculated using the following formula:

  • Defense = ((Dexterity*2) + (Total Armor Defense*(Armor Skill * .03)) + (Shield Armor * (shield skill * .03)) + ((Primary Weapon Skill + Secondary Weapon Skill)/2)) * (1. Stance Modification)

Hit roll

Regardless of one's defense or attack rating, there is a five percent chance of success for every attack event. This is known as the hit roll.
