Patch 8.1.0 - It's the Economy, stupid
Players, rejoice! Your voices have been heard, and several quality-of-life changes are going live.

Bargaining Now Works
Bargaining (Thief and Shopkeeper's Apprentice) has been implemented. Max trains are 90 on the skill, which would yield an 18% discount on NPC purchases.

Boons are Now Nation Friendly
The other emulators had this right. We have copied.

The Resource Harvester
A new NPC wanders Sea Dog's Rest. The Resource Harvester sells stacks of 10 resources (excluding Agate and Mithril). Prices will fluctuate based on demand.

Note: The NPC window will say "Quantity: 1," disregard that. This stack will be 10 in your inventory.

These are known technical issues with the Shadowbane Emulator. All are well-documented errors that can be reliably reproduced.

If you have discovered a new bug or error not listed here, please help us by making a post in the #report-bugs-here channel in <span class="plainlinks">Discord</span>.

Please note that is a violation of the rules to exploit bug to gain an advantage in the game.

Fixable Bugs
Please contact a staff member if you experience one of these issues. They will be handled on a case-by-case basis until full fixes are implemented.

* Tree of Life does not flatten land around it after placement ("terraform")
* Tree of Life is under water after placement
* Abandoning and re-claiming a tree of life can cause issues with shrines and mine claims.

General Bugs
Note: this list is not exhaustive.
* Deleting a character and then re-making one with the same name in a short time frame can cause the second character to become bugged. If you delete a character, please wait one hour before remaking a new one with the same name.
* Human LA and Tailor (and some other races) cannot add the stamina prefix to boots via formula crafting.

Unimplemented Features
These features existed in the original Shadowbane, but have simply not been emulated yet.

* Players can fall inside walls, runegates, and other structures that elevate them off the ground
* Water does not exist server-side, which causes forward rubber-banding for players swimming through it.
* Furniture is not available for purchase.
* The Enchanter spell "Infuse with Power" does not function.
* Innkeepers do not function.
* The Bargaining skill (Thief and Shopkeeper's Apprentice) has no effect.
* Destruction banes aren't possible. You can only capture a city.
* Warrants do not function and are not sold on vendors.
* The in-game friends list is not fully emulated
* Player-controlled NPCs are not assigned randomized names
* Charm spells do not function.
* Renaming equipment with the formula crafting feature does not work yet.
Multiboxing
This game allows you to log in more than one character at a time with strategy called "multiboxing". To create an even playing field, each character that enters the game after the first one will not be able to attack or cast spells. This means you can level up these alternate characters with your high-level main character, or leave them in town to do trading, but you cannot bring them along to a fight for a competitive edge.

How to Multibox
To multibox, follow these steps.

# Log into your main character as normal.
# Open a second instance of the Shadowbane client via the launcher app.
# On the second instance, log in with the same account information but with one exception: add an underscore (<code>_</code>) and an identifying string to the end. For example, if you usually log in with the username "<code>Reekor</code>", you would enter "<code>Reekor_2</code>" or "<code>Reekor_scout</code>" on the subsequent logins.

Note: When multiboxing, it is absolutely essential to log out of the game from the character select screen only. If the game were to crash, you would need to log back into that character and log out the proper way. Failure to properly log out could lead to the wrong character receiving the multiboxing penalty!
<br>
Note: Attempting to abuse the multibox system to avoid the multiboxing penalty will result in account suspension! Refer to the Rules section for more information.

Season 8 of SBEMU - The Raiders of Chaos

Season 8 introduces a win condition for Shadowbane. A Player Nation that holds 5 R8 Cities unlocks the ability to win the server. Completing the "Win" event will trigger a 2-week window, during which the server will decay and reset (or close if there is a lack of interest). Force of Perdition will be active throughout the world - spawning at Mines with groups of various sizes and strengths. Mines that are not captured by Player Guilds/Nations will send their resources to Perdition. Using the Raidstone system, Player Guild/Nations can raid Perdition to win a percentage of the gold and resources stored in the Warehouse.
Experience point (also known as XP or Exp) is the unit that tracks Shadowbane's level-based progression system. Experience points are required to gain levels and thus additional training points and ability points. The only source of experience points in Shadowbane is the killing of mobs and players, and once gained, they can not be lost.

Monster "Con"
A monster's difficulty is indicated by the color of its name in the selection bar. This is called con (not to be confused with constitution). This term is a holdover from MUDs/MUSHs/MUCKs where the standard command to determine difficulty was /con or /consider.
</center>
Leadership
Players who apply the Commander discipline will receive a new skill called Leadership. For Leadership work, the character employing it must be set as the group's leader and be within experience-gaining range of group members. Starting with patch 7.0, Leadership grants a top-level bonus to the Experience Points granted (18% at 90 trains). Previously, Leadership was a reduction in the size of the penalty applied to Experience Points granted when leveling as a group.

For example (v6.4 and earlier), 100 points of experience may be reduced by 10% when granted to a group. Leadership would have reduced the reduction by some percentage, up to 90%. This would have returned some of the lost Experience back to the group. In the example the reduction of 10 points would have been reduced to 1 point if the group's leader had 90 trains in Leadership; granting 99 Experience Points. For v7.0, the same Experience amount would have been calculated to be 118. This is the original 100 Experience Points, no penalty, and increased by 18% (at 90 trains).

PvE Calculations & Bonuses/Penalties
Base XP for a Mob kill is a combination of three factors: the player getting the experience, the level difference between the player getting the experience and the mob, and an XP Modification Rate on the mob. This calculation is performed for each group member in Experience Range at the time of the mob kill. After this amount is calculated, the following bonuses are applied:
*(Bonus) Hotzone - The mob's location at the time of death (not spawn) is used to determine if this bonus is applied
*(Penalty) Errant - Experience Points granted to an Errant player are reduced
*(Bonus) Realm - Realms under the control of Feudal R8s receive a bonus to PvE Experience Points
*(Bonus) Experience Charms - Zones that have triggered Experience bonuses to PvE, specifically Noob Island

Soft Cap
Shadowbane uses a soft cap to limit player level. As a player approaches level maxlvl, the amount of experience they receive from all sources gradually decreases, until they get just one point per kill at level maxlvl.

PvP Experience
Players will receive experience points from killing enemy players beginning at level 20. In order to receive this experience, the target must not have been killed by the same person in the past 30 minutes, and also can not be in the same nation.

PvP Experience Bonuses
TO BE UPDATED
A PC will receive an bonus on top of the normal PvP experience value if they kill another player under the following circumstances:
*Your victim is a higher level than you
*You were the first person to kill your victim
*Your kill was your first one of the day
*You are having a kill streak
*Your victim had a kill streak (that you ended)

Experience Penalties
TO BE UPDATED

PvP Event Experience
Being present when a bane or mine comes to an end will yield a player a large bonus to their experience if they are a member of the successful nation.

Notes
*The starting traits are achieved by doing the following at creation:
Select Rogue as your base class and take 5 points each from Strength, Intelligence, and Spirit. Take Tough Hide. Take Fleet of Foot, followed by Warlord's Page and Tough as Nails. Now change your base class to Mage and your setup is complete.
{{lorebox|Called Dervishes by the peoples of the Green Lands, Sun Dancers are the strangest and deadliest of all Irekei. The true pinnacle of strength, the Sun Dancers teach, can only be reached when an Irekei casts off all weapons but his flesh and spirit, becoming like unto the Dragon itself.

Laughing as we came, the Blade Weavers began our dance, expecting an easy kill. And then this stranger moved, and taught dancers the true measure of motion. So fast were his limbs that my eyes could not follow them, and he seemed somehow to pluck the thoughts from my very brain, anticipating the steps and turns of my dance, and countering them effortlessly. We slashed at him, our T'lanarionae a storm of steel, but the jet-skinned devil weaved and leaped, and we never drew his blood. Then he struck, with nothing more than his bare fists and feet, but in them was such force that they sent his targets flying through the air, as if struck by a battering ram.

The game map is divided into several realms, which can be seen when hovering your mouse over continents in the World Map. Cities placed with these realms can vie for lordship, and those that succeed can upgrade their Tree of Life into a "Palace," a visible symbol of their power and prestige, and turning their city into the capital of their realm. Any realm can only have one Palace within it at a time; once claimed, a city will rule until its rivals can depose it in battle. Guilds with the power to build and maintain a Palace find that rule brings many benefits:

*City-based bonus based on the capital's outlook: Belligerent, Mercantile, or Feudal.
*The Guild Leader receives a title before their overhead name, from Baron or Marquis to Warlord, King, or even Emperor!
*Leaders of Nations that rule more than one realm gain loftier titles.
*The Guild's heraldry appears on the realm map, with the names of the guild, capital and ruler.
*Guild Leaders can appoint Tax Collectors, who have the power to levy weekly taxes of gold and resources from every other city in the realm.

Claiming a Realm
To ascend the throne and claim control over a realm, a guild or nation leader must activate a Realm Charter in an eligible city while holding all three realm blessings.

Tree Rank
Only a Rank 7 Tree of Life can upgrade into a palace. Once the upgrade is complete, the tree is then considered Rank 8.
Materials
Preparations for the city capital must be made in the form of gold and other resources:

*Must have a Warehouse built within the city vying for dominion of the realm
*5,000,000 Gold either in the Tree of Life strongbox or within the Warehouse
*8,000 Stone - available from any stone or metal mine
*8,000 Lumber - available from any lumber camp
*15 Galvor - available only from the metal mine on Oblivion
*15 Wormwood - available only from the lumber camp on Maelstrom
*If insufficient resources exist in the Warehouse (or ToL), the upgrade will fail.

The King's Path
But it takes more than iron, stone, or even a crown to make a king. To truly rule a realm, a player must receive the mandate of the Gods themselves. Once all the necessary resources have been collected and a Realm Charter has been acquired, the would-be ruler must go on a journey to visit 3 Hermits, scattered at remote locations across each game world.

Each Hermit can grant one Blessing to the aspiring monarch: the Blessing of Power, the Blessing of Wisdom, and the Blessing of Fortune. These blessings last a limited amount of time, and will be broken if the aspiring ruler is killed or logs out of the game. Additionally, the road to power is not easy: the blessings will burden the young King until the end of his Journey, preventing magical movement, summon travel, and slowing them down.

Under the protection of the guild and or nation, the guild leader must go to all three hermits, return to their city, and activate the Realm Charter while all 3 blessings are still in effect. If all of these conditions are met, the Charter will successfully activate, transforming the Tree of Life into a Palace.

The Hermits
As described above, an aspiring monarch must visit three hermits scatter across the world before he or she can ascend. Note that each time a blessing is granted, a message is broadcast to the entire server.
Maintenance
To maintain control of a realm, the capital will automatically be charged the following materials as maintenance from their warehouse every week. If any of the following materials are not present, control of the realm will be lost.
*1500 Stone
*1500 Lumber
*5 Galvor
*5 Wormwood

Realm Charters and Types of Realms
In addition to city preparations, the Guild members will need to acquire a "Realm Charter". These come in three varieties, which define the political outlook of the Realm. The Charter type determines the appearance of the palace, and also offers a unique set of benefits and drawbacks to the realm. Rank 8 Cities automatically receive their cut of the spoils when their vassals loot mob corpses, receive mine production, or when they sell goods and services. The size of the cut depends on the type of charter used.

* Farming: tax applies when a player loots gold from mob corpses inside the controlling realm.
* Merchant: tax apples when spending gold on items or training in any city in the controlling realm (including NPC cities!)
* Mining Tax:tax applies whenever a mine generates resources for a city in the realm (rounded down, minimum 1 unit)

Feudal
Feudal Realms take a balanced approach to government.

* City Asset Health Modifier: Normal
* Upgrade Time Modifier: Normal
* Maintenance Cost Modifier: Normal
* Farming Rate: 10%
* Merchant Rate: 5%
* Mining Tax Rate: 10%

Mercantile
Mercantile Realms are focused on trade and commerce, putting wealth first.

* City Asset Health Modifier: -15% Trade, not war, is the focus of these realms.
* Upgrade Time Modifier: -10% Rapid growth is a key focus of commerce.
* Maintenance Cost Modifier: -10%
* Farming Rate: 15%
* Merchant Rate: 10%
* Mining Tax Rate: 15%
Belligerent
Belligerent realms focus their efforts on war and siege, placing might above other goals.

* City Asset Health Modifier: +15% Warlike realms focus on withstanding sieges, and build sturdy structures.
* Upgrade Time Modifier: +10% stronger buildings are harder to build.
* Maintenance Cost Modifier: +10% maintaining a city on a warlike footing is expensive.
* Farming Rate: 5%
* Merchant Rate: 5%
* Mining Tax Rate: 5%

Non-Capital Benefits
If someone has claimed your realm, they can tax your intake of farming, merchant sales & mining, removing the listed percentage of resources and gold. If your realm capital chooses to do so, your city will share in its asset health, upgrade time, and maintenance cost modifier adjustments listed above.

Benefits of Rule
Once a realm has been claimed, the Guild controlling its capital city gains several benefits:

*The Realm "welcoming message" names the ruler, their title, and the ruling guild.
*The guild leader of the capital city gains a title based on Charter type, that appears before their name in game.
*Clicking on the realm in the World Map opens an info HUD containing the name of the ruler, ruling guild, and the realm type.
*Special bonuses based on the realm's outlook, as detailed above.
*Realm capitals receive automatic tax shares of gold looted from mobs, vendor sales, and mine products sent to cities in their realm.

Losing Control of a Realm
There are two ways a capital can downgrade back into a Tree of Life, putting that realm back "up for grabs":

*If a capital cannot pay its maintenance costs, it goes into default. After one week in default, it will downgrade unless sufficient resources can be gathered.
*If a Palace sustains enough damage in a siege to destroy it, it downgrades to an R7 Tree of Life, and control over the realm is lost.

Controlling Multiple Realms
If a guild that controls a realm swears fealty to another guild that rules a realm, the ruling nation increases in status. All realms controlled by one nation will highlight together when moused over, and the title of the nation ruler will upgrade (from Baron to King, from King to Emperor) when 3 or 5 realms are controlled, respectively.

A nation cannot control more than 5 realms at once, but reaching this limit is perhaps the most prestigious goal in all of Shadowbane.

At last some of the Lost Gods stir again, and new demi-gods offer their favor to the scattered nations of the Age of Strife. Which would-be God will they follow? New altars arise in the cities, and quests have begun for the precious treasures the Gods demand as offerings. The peoples of Aerynth look to Gods new and old; how will the rise of the Upstart Gods reshape the shattered fragments of Aerynth?|Rise of the Upstart Gods}}

Divine favor is an in-game mechanic designed to grant special buffs to individuals if they meet specific class and race criteria. The Divine favor system was added to the game in the Rise of the Upstart Gods patch on March 17th 2003.
How It Works
Guild masters may choose to erect a shrine to a particular creed associated with a race and/or class by purchasing the necessary building deed from a builder (See the Shrines article). A city may have a maximum of three shrines, no two of which can be the same. The city who has the most favor with their creed may receive the best boon. In order to receive boons, the shrine requires a hireling called a Votary, purchasable from a steward.

Gaining Favor
While playing, a player may come across items of importance to the lore of their race or class called offerings. If that player visits the appropriate shrine, he or she may give the offering in tribute, which will give the hosting city favor. Each offering has a list of creeds and a corresponding number value. This value indicates the amount of favor they are worth to that shrine when sacrificed.

Using Favor
To receive the boon of a creed, the player must speak to the Votary NPC. Only players in the same guild and who are compatible with the shrine may use it. For instance, an Irekei Bard may only use an Irekei Shrine or a Bard Shrine.

Each time a player receives a buff from a shrine, they spend one divine favor. Monitoring and managing divine favor points is important because the buff you receive changes depending on how "favored" you are with the race or class shrine. For this reason, a guild message is announced whenever a player accepts a boon. Players may also open an interface when speaking to the shrine's Votary to see which guilds have the top favor scores for each shrine type.

In addition to receiving buffs from shrines, the two leading shrines of each shrine type will 10% of their standing each day. This is to ensure that newer guilds can always compete in the system.

Boons
The buffs granted by shrines are powerful and can last between one and two hours. They cannot be removed by any means except player death, expiration, or being overwritten by a more powerful boon.

The following is a list of boons a first place Shrine will grant a player who meets its race or class requirement.
Destroying Shrines
City leaders are able to destroy their shrine, as they can with other city buildings. However, once a shrine is destroyed, any favor spent on that shrine is lost.

Following a bane, a shrine can only be destroyed by an enemy if the tree of life protecting it is destroyed. Once the shrine is in a 'destroyed' state, anyone near it can double click the rubble to receive a corresponding number of "super offerings". These offerings will be 'generic' offerings that can be offered at any shrine. There are no limitations on who can loot a destroyed shrine.
