Newbie Isle, also known as "Uthgaard", is the zone where all new characters begin play.

First Steps

Promotion and Training

New characters will begin at level 10 with 10,000 gold in their inventories for training and provisions. The first step is to promote to your chosen prestige class by visiting the appropriate trainer. We also recommend visiting an alchemist and purchasing a Greater Concoction Potion.

Gear

The starting area has armor, weapon, and jewelry vendors who are giving away gear at no cost. Replace your starter gear with this gear as soon as you have completed your training.

Outpost Conquest

Newbie Isle consists of two warring factions, which are selected by the player when first entering the world. The faction you choose does not really matter, unless you plan on going through it with other players.

Players on the isle may capture one or more of the four outposts to gain benefits to their experience. If one of the two factions captures all four outposts, their entire faction will be rewarded with a sizable chunk of experience. The losing faction will receive an "underdog bonus" buff to help them in the next round.

PvP On Newb Isle

Players can kill other players on newb isle, but the rules are a little different: Players cannot kill members of their own faction, and inventory items are not left behind after dying. Additionally, players below level 20 receive special buffs that put them on a level playing field with players level 20 and up.

Participating in PvP nets more experience than killing mobs alone. Players are encouraged to engage in it whenever possible both to learn the ropes and to help out their faction.

Graduation

Players are automatically teleported off of newbie isle at level 35. At this point, the player should seek allies for zones around that level, or risk leveling solo.
