Welcome to Shadowbane!

This is the first article in a series which will take you from knowing nothing about Shadowbane to being savvy on expert game tactics. This guide has been written to allow you to learn how to play at your own pace by breaking up major content into bite-size articles which have been organized in the navigation bar at the bottom of this page.

If guides aren't for you, try reaching out to community members on our Newbie Help Forum.

Account Creation & Forums

However, before you can make such a post, you'll need to create a forum account. Conveniently, a forum account is also necessary to access the game. No worries, registering is simple!

Click here to Register
  1. Click the Register button above.
  2. Read and agree to the terms and conditions.
  3. Enter your user name of choice, then fill out other details. You'll need to validate your email address before the account is activated.
  4. Once your account is active, you'll be able to post on the forums, but that is not required for playing the game.

"If you use the forums, you need 15 posts before you can make a new topic or send PM's, but you can reply to anything you want!"

Download & Configuration

The next step is to obtain the Shadowbane game software. This is also very easy, just click the download button below!

Download the Shadowbane Client for your PC Download the Shadowbane Client for your Mac

Install the client to a directory with 830 MB or more of free space that you can easily access, because you will need to make one more adjustment before logging in. Since the game is no longer supported by its original host, it is necessary tell the program that you want it to connect to SBEmu's server. Don't worry! It's not as complicated as it sounds. Just follow the steps below.

PC & Windows Setup

  1. Locate your new Shadowbane directory on your computer's hard drive. It's usually found under "C:\Program Files\Shadowbane"
  2. Click and drag the "SB.exe" file (not to be confused with Shadowbane.exe) to your desktop to create a shortcut.
  3. Open the "Config" folder, and then open the file called "ArcaneIP" in a text editor (such as Notepad).
  4. Delete all text you find there, then copy and paste the following info inside and save over the original.
SERVER= sb-ls.shadowbaneemulator.com
PORT= 6000

And now you are finished! You may close out of the ArcaneIP file and your Shadowbane directory.

Mac OSX Setup

If you use a Mac, follow these instead:

  1. Right-click the newly installed Shadowbane application and select “Show Package Contents”.
  2. To access the Config folder select Drive C -> Program Files -> Shadowbane -> Config.
  3. Open the ArcaneIP.cfg file (it should open with TextEdit).
  4. Delete all text you find there, then copy and paste the following information inside and save over the original.
SERVER= sb-ls.shadowbaneemulator.com
PORT= 6000

Done! If you prefer, you may also move the Shadowbane icon from Applications to the dock for faster access.

Logging In

Now that you have the client, its time to boot it up!

  1. Run the shortcut to SB.exe you have on your desktop or tray and give the client some time to load.
  2. Once you see the login screen, enter your forum username and password and click "log in".

Next Steps

Your account and your client are now ready to rock. You will be kicking it in Aerynth in no time!

For assistance with creating your first character, proceed to the next part in the Getting Started series: Character Creation. If you've already got a character, or need no assistance, you can proceed right to the in-game portion of the series: Leveling Characters 1-20 .
